Mammoth Lakes Engagement Photographer | California Adventure Engagement Photography in Mammoth, California
Adventure sessions, engagement sessions, and elopements in Yosemite may get all the attention, but Mammoth Lakes, California is an incredible spot for amazing adventure engagement photos. Best of all, it’s FREE, and it’s far less crowded than Yosemite. If you want to elope in Yosemite or take engagement photos in Los Angeles or San Francisco—but want something a little different—be like Romi and Jon. For their Mammoth Lakes engagement photos, we did an awesome hike together, saw incredible views, and had a beautiful time.

Mammoth (https://www.visitmammoth.com/) isn’t just a ski resort in the least. In the summer months, Mammoth Lakes is amazing for hiking, camping, world-class mountain biking, soaking in hot springs, and more. And best of all, it’s is an awesome place for elopement photos, engagement sessions, weddings, and more. Once you see the photos, you’ll agree that the hiking and views are A-OKAY.
When Romi and her fiancé Jon had their wedding postponed, they wanted to get new photos for save-the-dates. A couple’s adventure engagement session/”re-engagement photos” (is that a thing now?!) at the lake where she spent summers seemed like the perfect location.

Instead of just photographing on the shores of Lake George and Lake Mary, I suggested a hike with some incredible views. Romi and Jon were troopers and agreed, and because there was a thunderstorm just 2 hours before our shoot, the trail had few people—even better! We spent a couple hours getting some pretty epic engagement photos, with overlooks of the lakes, quiet moments on the mountain, amazing reflections, and beautiful views.

Even with some extra puffing at 8,000 feet, it wasn’t too difficult (even carrying camera gear and extra clothing). Hey…I’m a Mammoth Lakes wedding photographer, so I’m used to carrying my gear while hiking in some less-than-ideal conditions. Once I get to 13,000 feet, that’s when I really start to feel it. Colorado, the Himalayas, and even Hawaii has some pretty high peaks where you’ll feel the thinner air. But I digress.
Romi’s bold shirt and skirt fluttered perfectly in the wind, and I got some creative engagement photos on the mountain before our hike down. Jon and Romi were such a lovely couple, and we all had a great time exploring the mountain together. We hit up a few more spots around Lake George and Lake Mary, and voila! Another amazing day and adventure engagement session in Mammoth.

[…] My style at Kathryn Cooper Weddings is very candid, adventurous, colorful, and fun. Many of my couples are travelers, hikers, LGBTQ couples, sarcastic folks, and/or explorers who are more the “let’s have an adventure” type than the “let’s get dressed up” type. I get all kinds of clients, but going hiking is very natural for many of my couples, so it’s nice to showcase that part of them (especially if their wedding is in a more formal venue away from mountains/woods/waterfalls).Outdoor engagement photos are my favorite, and since I love being unique, offering hiking engagement photos is gaining in popularity. Whether 1 mile or 10, many of my couples are excited to take shots somewhere beautiful, new, and/or much loved. For some it’s finding a new perspective at a place where they’ve spent time.Take Romi and Jon, who spent time in Mammoth Lakes growing up. They’d never been on the trail above this specific lake, though, so for their California hiking engagement photos, we hiked this beautiful trail and got incredible views.
