Less than 2 hours from Boston, this nature-filled Connecticut wedding venue was the perfect location for A+J’s joyful LGBTQ wedding.

A Fall StoneHurst at Hampton Valley Wedding

What happens when you mix the perfect weather, total freedom around the most popular wedding venue in Hampton CT, and the most delightful couple and guests? You get Amanda and Jadin’s LGBTQ wedding!

Every once in a while, a wedding day goes so perfectly, and the couple and guests are such a delight, and you have the creative freedom to take some super-quirky shots. For me, this was one of those weddings.

Jadin and Amanda were an utter delight to work with since we did their engagement photos last year—and their wedding was even more awesome. These two love each other so much, and were up for any photos—making it the perfect day for me and my second photographer! Add in the beautiful grounds at Stonehurst, a wedding venue in Eastern Connecticut, and you have the best day.

Truthfully, I had a very hard time pairing down the photos to show in this post. There were simply too many fun ones of their outgoing personalities!

A Beautiful, Private Connecticut Wedding Venue

StoneHurst at Hampton Valley is a very large Connecticut wedding venue with a variety of landscapes and beautiful areas. In fact, it’s two CT venues in one: The Barn, and The Mansion. Both can be rented to provide a huge, multi-functional venue area and private party feel for all your guests. 30 guests? 300? You can do it here!

StoneHurst is an LGBTQ-friendly wedding venue and CT barn venue in Hampton, Connecticut. While Upstate New York and Massachusetts are full of barn wedding venues, CT doesn’t have all that many. And love it or hate it, Hampton is pretty far removed from the rest of the immediate world, so you won’t be bothered by the town, loud music, or traffic. This does mean, however, that your guests will stay at a hotel about 15 minutes away.

Still, the venue is less than 2 hours from Boston, and about 3 hours from NYC. So that makes it a great New England wedding venue for folks coming from out of state.

The StoneHurst CT wedding venues are inclusive and lovely. All of the staff created a warm, welcoming environment (and seriously, it got cold on the property at night there!). In fact, the easygoing staff and delightful nature of Amanda and Jadin made it one of those days you absolutely adore your job. Their friends, family, officiants, and wedding party were just such a great team, and were entirely excited on their behalf.

For Jadin & Amanda’s StoneHurst wedding, they got ready in The Mansion, had their portraits and ceremony outside around the property, and then did their reception at The Barn.

StoneHurst at Hampton Valley weddings allow you to rent out The Barn, The Mansion, or both with a full buyout. For those who can afford a little extra, it’s a no-brainer to have the huge property to yourself—and not have to worry about attendees crashing your wedding, sound interference, or fighting over photo spots. That said, both venues are quite large, so it’s not the end of the world. For their bridal portraits, we loved having the entire property to ourselves!

StoneHurst’s Mansion, The Barns, and Little River

The two StoneHurst wedding venues are very different:

The Mansion at StoneHurst:

  • The Mansion is very modern inside, with lots of natural light, multiple floors with huge rooms and suites for getting ready, and a white marble appearance with black staircase accents and decorations. It looks like a homey stone A-frame stone-and-log cabin from the outside, but the inside is completely unexpected. The ground floor is used for receptions and dancing, and has a lower ceiling, full bar, fireplace, a wrought iron entrance, and doors leading out to the main courtyard in the back, as well as the river, forest, and smaller woodsy ceremony area called Little River at StoneHurst. The StoneHurst Mansion holds 120 guests.

The Barns at StoneHurst:

  • The StoneHurst Barns are quite large, with one main barn that holds up to 300 people. Two wedding suites, a huge bar and buffet room, and giant barn doors separate the main barn from the entryway and other areas. An expansive lawn, covered outdoor area, charcoal pit for s’mores, and more round out this double-story, concrete-floored barn.

Jadin and Amanda rented both the StoneHurst Barns and Mansion out, and thus had full access to the entire property with their buyout.

Getting Ready at StoneHurst

The brides got ready together, and though I’d never seen it before, weaved their kippahs (yarmulkes) into their hairdos. What a unique way to bring their Jewish heritage into their wedding looks!

We did their first look on the Mansion entryway stairs, helped out by their supportive friends and members of their wedding party. After this delightful moment, we went outside and took portraits all around the property’s entrance, different walkways, the forest, the river, and more.

Two of the best locations for portraits around StoneHurst are the venue entrance—a long, tree-lined driveway, and down by Little River—a peaceful, forested area by the water that’s immersed in nature. It feels well removed from a wedding venue, and is beautifully quiet.

As an LGBTQ couple, Jadin and Amanda had a few accessories, including rainbow pride umbrellas/parasols. We used them for creative portraits, too!

After family portraits and the arrival (by trolley) of many of their guests, they did a private ketubah signing and small Christian dedication in the attic of The Mansion. Then, it was time for their ceremony!

A Fusion Christian-Jewish LGBTQ Wedding Ceremony

Amanda and Jadin had a fusion ceremony under the chuppah. There were a lot of grins, music, tears, and readings. These two brides both broke glasses before the Mazel Tov and celebration. You can just feel their giddiness throughout the entire ceremony.

After their cocktail hour in The Mansion and a few sneak shots of the brides on the StoneHurst Trolley, it was time for their reception at The Barn!

There were the intros, blessing, singing, breaking of the bread, dinner (the garlic rolls smell out of this world—get ‘em), and dancing. Of course the hora was fun, and the brides took some time alone at night to enjoy s’mores by the warm fire.

It wouldn’t be a Kathryn Cooper Weddings night without some creative night shots, which the brides were super excited about (below). From the amazing weather to the support of everyone there to the fall colors—but most of all, because of the sheer joy of these two brides—this was the most perfect StoneHurst at Hampton Valley wedding~
