Brooklyn Engagement Photos | A Brooklyn & NYC Engagement Session with a Cool Vibe | Brooklyn Wedding Photographer

Do your NYC engagement photos need to be traditional and uber-romantic? Of course not! And if you have Brooklyn engagement photos done, you’ve got to be as cool as Brooklyn is (which is sometimes ironically cool…). I photographed Andrew and Caitlyn’s Brooklyn engagement session not just in front of the Brooklyn Bridge, but in a few different parts of Brooklyn’s beautiful waterfront (and beyond).

Andrew and Caitlin are both lawyers in New York and fell in love online, while studying law. They would stay up at night talking about studying their different specialties, and eventually helping each other (well, emotionally supporting each other at least) pass the New York State Bar.

Though they live in Brooklyn now, the dream was to always have engagement photos in Brooklyn…at sunset. But they also wanted Manhattan engagement photos, and really desired fun, unique engagement photography that wasn’t the usual romantic flowery photos (not that there’s anything wrong with that!). It was fall in the city and this was pre-COVID-19, so we started at one of my favorite places in not just NYC, but ANYWHERE: Economy Candy. If you haven’t been to Economy Candy…well, this place in my oh-so-favorite Lower East Side, you should. If you like cavities, I mean.

Some candy, some subway shots, some graffiti…does it get more New York than this for fall engagement photos in NYC? It was time for their Brooklyn engagement photos, so over there we went.
Note for taking Brooklyn AND Manhattan engagement/wedding photos:
Tip: Taking Brooklyn Bridge engagement photos is time-consuming, as there is no fast route from any subway up to the best bridge views. Even taking wedding photos in Manhattan and over to Water Street for more takes quite a while, even in a taxi. Definitely allot extra commuting time!

After taking some photos at the always-crowded Water Street for some DUMBO engagement photos, we wangled our way onto a rooftop for nighttime shots after they changed into some fancy clothes. Sunset in New York is often beautiful, but don’t skip out right after! The twinkling lights of the city make for delightful and beautiful NYC skyline shots, and engagement photos around Brooklyn Bridge Park are just lovely.
Our parting shots were some unique night engagement photos in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Most people get engagement photos done on the Brooklyn Bridge, but I did a creative twist on theirs below, right in the park—and did a long exposure to make the night look like day.

Snazzy, and definitely Brooklyn cool.

So did we end up taking pretty romantic engagement photography around Brooklyn? I think so. I guess we’ll try to be more cool next time.
