Red barns. New barns. Hidden barns. Blue Barns. It’s taken me years of being a Hudson Valley wedding photographer to compile this list of amazing barn wedding venues in upstate NY, and even longer to write this riff off of Dr. Suess. No, I kid. In all seriousness, I do hope this New York venue list helps you pick your wedding spot! As someone who grew up playing in a barn right here in the Hudson Valley, I love and appreciate a good country barn more than your average bloke.

The first farms in New York were built in the early 1600s, with the style originating in Europe. These barns were originally meant to store crops, not animals. Later on, they were used to store crops, animals, and humans. Today, many have been converted to one-of-a-kind stays, venues, retreats, and more. Many of them still operate as farms as well, offering guests a true farm-to-table meal experience. In my guide here, I’ve listed over 30 Hudson Valley wedding barns–pretty much every one!

Yes, a few barns on this list are just outside of what’s technically the Hudson Valley. But hey, some of these New York weddings venues are too beautiful to pass up! In order to make it into this list, a venue had to: A.) Have a real barn in which wedding ceremonies and/or receptions occur; B.) Be a known business in the Hudson Valley, with a website; C.) Have the barn as the, or one of the, main areas for the bulk of the wedding.

My official map of beautiful barn wedding venues in New York’s Hudson Valley.

Below the map, I go into detail about each barn and wedding venue, as well as the county it’s in.

Hudson Valley Barn Wedding Venues

Owls Hoot Barn

Owner Kerri Corrigan makes Owl’s Hoot Barn an amazing wedding venue. She runs the property with her husband and other staff, and lives within walking distance of the venue. It’s her vision and personal touches that raised this barn from the overgrowth that had consumed it into the gorgeous, rustic, all-inclusive property it is today. Everything can be done on-site, and Kerri and her family have renovated, built, and hand-decorated most parts of their half-dozen homes and mini-barns on the property and across the road. When I met her, she was gardening at the entrance while staff laid new outdoor tile for their unique barn patio overhang, which is perfect for those unexpected Hudson Valley showers. When the weather is great, you have a bonfire, fields, a beautiful stream, multiple bridges, and weeping willows around the property for photos and enjoyment. There’s only one wedding per weekend, so you can have the property to yourselves for decorating, prepping, and celebrating. It doesn’t get much more lovely than this!

The Preston Barn

The Preston Barn at Old Drovers Inn reopened in 2017. Originally an old inn (you’ll notice the floors are charmingly uneven and the decorations are antiques) that housed travelers starting in the 1700s, the addition of the barn made hosting weddings a reality. The barn itself is made of reclaimed historic barn sections from all over the Hudson Valley, and is painted a unique white with barn red trim. An all-weekend venue, you can arrive Friday to set up, and stay until Sunday to enjoy the property with your family. Everything is done in-house, and limited housing is available on-site.

Full Moon Resort

Full Moon Resort is one of my absolute favorite places for a wedding. Rather than a wedding venue, you truly feel you’re at a summer camp for adults. In fact, I put it in my list of 14 Unique Hudson Valley Wedding Venues. Featuring over 100 acres, multiple on-site housing choices for all of your guests (glamping, cabins, homes, etc. all spread out along their property and down the road within walking distance), streams, billiards, a mini cafeteria with many dietary options, and streams, Full Moon is the rustic dream. Best of all, they have not one, but TWO barns. One is an old-school wood, red, and hunter green barn where welcome BBQs and cocktail hours are typically done. The other is a very new pavilion-barn with a massive space for up to 350 guests indoors, plus a band. My favorite part as a photographer? Both barns have balconies, which means more space for activities, your photobooth, relaxation, and angles to capture the entire celebration.

The BARN at Liberty Farms

With 300 acres, hills, fire pit, manicured paddocks, a grand lawn, and a barn (obviously), The BARN at Liberty Farms is a well-manicured and upscale barn wedding venue in the Hudson Valley. It was formerly a stallion barn, and as you walk around the inside, you can still see stalls and other rooms (now repurposed as your bar, cocktail area, photo booth station, etc.). The barn accommodates 150 and has air conditioning and heating. The grand entrance features massive curtains, and a fire pit is available for the fun afterwards. An optional tent can be set up if needed, but your guests will be too busy walking around the private property and playing lawn games to hide out. Up on the hilltop, where many couples do their first look, you’ll find the animals of Liberty Farms, plus views of the Catskills and Berkshires.

Stablegate Farm & Vineyard

This 19th-century barn wedding venue in Albany, NY is situated on a private vineyard. This allows you to have your ceremony with your backdrop of the vineyard, farm, barn, horses, Catskill mountain view, or fireplace. Stablegate Barn & Vineyard is a converted dairy farm, and its main barn is not red, but a cream color. Little touches you wouldn’t expect at a barn venue adorn the venue, including unique antiques, a custom penny-topped bar, real grape vines in fall, and more.

Kiernan Farm

The Kiernans are the most lovely people, and their farm and vineyard are offered with utmost flexibility and care. Kiernan Farm is a real, working farm and vineyard, and thus very few spots are available each weekend. Plus, the Kiernans host music festivals and other events at the farms, so finding an open weekend at this very affordable Hudson Valley wedding venue is not common. That said, those who book get their run of the place and can stay all week since it’s a full-weekend, only-1-wedding-per-weekend venue. This is more of a DIY wedding venue, but included are chairs and tables, lawn games, water and electric hookup, on-site parking, a restroom trailer, and use of the hand-renovated barn.

Roxbury Barn and Estate

Roxbury is a beautifully unique Hudson Valley wedding venue that is set in the Catskills woods. One of my favorite things about Roxbury Barn and Estate, aside from the fact that it’s a beautifully curated venue, is that they are 100% LGBTQ inclusive. As a welcoming LGBT wedding photographer, I find this refreshing in an area that can sometimes feature only Caucasian, heterosexual couples. Owners Casper de Boer and Roger Ross Williams have made sure to give clients a unique, friendly, welcoming, and darn stunning wedding day. Unlike most on this list, the Roxbury wedding venue has distinct areas instead of a field and a barn. It’s a photographer’s dream venue, with 50 acres on the estate, indoor and outdoor spaces, a 170-year-old 2-story black-stained barn, designer Italian chandeliers, A/C, a bar, Wifi, audio, bonfire, and a most spectacular tall pine forest. A manicured wooden arch blends into the forest and provides a bold backdrop for those who wish to say their vows here. A most stunning New York venue for your intimate wedding celebration.

Hudson Valley Weddings at the Hill

Hudson Valley Weddings at the Hill is a fantastic open space for celebrating. A multi-level barn can fit hundreds of guests, rain or shine. And that’s just the upstairs! Downstairs are converted paddocks, relaxation areas, getting ready areas, and farm views. From outside, you have tons of photo locations to choose from, and most people get married with either the painted barn in the background, or out in the field with the Catskills and hills in the distance. Other areas such as the Art Barn are there to get ready, and beautiful woods, a long gravel driveway, and blooming trees make for a lovely setting. Only 22 wedding spots are open here per year since only one wedding per weekend is reserved.

Crested Hen Farms

Crested Hen Farms is a 32-acre barn wedding venue with a 3,000-square-foot barn. The dairy barn is an awesome faded antique red from the 1830s, and was recently renovated to ensure its history wasn’t erased. In fact, Crested Hen Farms is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the New York State Register of Historic Places. Most couples choose to get married by the river, though the barn as a backdrop is also fantastic. This is rustic yet chic, and yes–there are indeed crested hens on the property to this day.

Red Maple Vineyard

Though a winery isn’t the first place you’d expect to see a barn, Red Maple Vineyard offers just the right luxurious touches. No roughing it here! It’s an 1800s grey barn that’s been updated with red trip and multiple add-ons including a bridal suite, bar and lounge, stained glass, and even a piano. Getting ready is typically done in here as are many photos, though only the smallest wedding receptions would be here. After a vineyard wedding on their 140+ acres, most elect to hold their celebrations in the Red Maple Vineyard pavilion, which is essentially a huge upgraded barn with exposed beams and elevated rustic settings. Red Maple books up pretty far in advance, and is one of the most popular wedding venues in the area.

Ryan Family Farm

Located just a few miles from where I grew up, The Ryan Family Farm is a modern rustic venue here in Dutchess County. Family-owned, the 100 acres of farmland features a newly renovated 3,000-square-foot barn. It’s been updated with A/C and heating, has on-site parking for 100+ cars, includes modern bathroom facilities, and allows use of their observation deck for unique photo perspectives. Once you’re here, it’ll be hard to believe this is a former operating dairy farm. Still, it has that family feel of a local wedding venue versus one that’s run more like a wedding factory. Plus, you can say your vows in front of the little barnlette shown on the property.

M & D Farm

The idyllic M & D Farm is for the quirky, woodsy, boho couple who wants a cottage core-inspired wedding versus a rockin’ out drinken party. European-style gardens, a pond and dock, prairies and fields, and woods make for a more intimate, romantic experiences with a quaint 1900 farmhouse for getting ready and relaxing. Guests can stroll the gardens or have a tent set up for larger gatherings, but for sure, the English-inspired, plant-covered barn is a centerpiece here. Owned by Mario and Daniel, this Cuban-Spanish duo have created a unique wedding venue with a gorgeous 1940s barn in the center. Together, they’ll help make your wedding day flawless, and full of unique details

Meadow Ridge on Hudson

Meadow Ridge on Hudson is a 100-acre farm is unique in that it sits right on the Hudson River. With upscale, modern aesthetics and details, it may change your thoughts on a traditional barn wedding. Gardens, a pond, the Catskill mountains, and a multi-level 19th-century dairy barn. Now that’s a barn wedding venue! Distinct sections of the Meadow Ridge wedding venue give you choices of garden cocktail hours, barn receptions, and forest vows…though you can turn that all around and do what you want, where you want. It’s a luxury barn wedding venue, and budgets here are often in the 6 figures for standard weddings. There are even stepping stones across the pond and tree swings, making for daredevil photo ops! You’ll for sure enjoy the free reign and immense space at this beautiful wedding venue on the Hudson

Fortune Valley Manor

One of the more budget-friendly wedding venues in the Hudson Valley, Fortune Valley Manor offers a blank slate: A tree-lined property, expansive lawns if you want to do a helicopter wedding entry or exit (yes, it’s allowed here!), a pond, and a 5,000-square-foot barn with seating for 300. Good luck finding a venue for 300 people with a base price of $12k like this in New York! You can get married anywhere you want on the property, and you don’t have to worry about buses or transport since the 35 acres have plenty of parking. Make it as DIY as you want and throw the biggest party you want.

Liberty View Farm

A wedding at Liberty View Farm is perfect for your close-to-NYC-but-far-enough-away-to-forget wedding weekend. The owners and employees have worked for decades together, and thus know how to make your night move smoothly. It’s got so many beautiful areas, but it may be the extras that put it over the top. Free apples. You can even bake apple pies for your wedding guests! Camping spots. A cabin in the woods. The ability to have your family-style reception IN the orchard. Hanging lanterns. Views. Arbors. It’s a beautiful place if you can book it!

Handsome Hollow

For the romantic at heart is the dark, romantic, and dare I say handsome wedding venue Handsome Hollow. This is an olde (yes, with an e…go with it) barn–240 years old–and with a handsome variegated wood exterior. 4,200 square feet with a 1,200-square-foot patio and overhang, plus a huge candlelit garden make this Sullivan County wedding venue quite the romantic spot. You can explore the nearly 100 acres of hiking paths, lawns, gardens, creeks, and woods, host a bonfire, or enjoy relaxing in the farmhouse. We’ll just say it: This is a fancy wedding venue, and rental rates range from $15k – $20k, which isn’t bad for this beautiful place where you have your pick of lovely ceremony sites.

Stone Tavern Farm

At 12,000 square feet, Stone Tavern Farm may be one of the largest barns in the Northeast for weddings. Over 200 years old, this horse farm (yes, you can get wedding photos with horses) sits on 250 acres with different houses, a pavilion, pond, woods, trails, fields, and more. The current rates are about $18k for the full weekend, not including extra lodging and add-ons. Play lawn games, say vows under the old maple tree, or enjoy a bonfire while watching the sunset over the pond. They even include tiki torches for that extra-fun touch! The massive barn is a restored hemlock bar, and inside you’ll find unique lighting, a raised dance floor, and a permanent bar.

Maple Shade Farm

Abby and Jay met each other in kindergarten, got “play married” in elementary school, and then actually got married over 20 years ago. Now, they have three kids and run Maple Shade Farm. Kismet? Obviously. They’ll take care of you and your wedding day while you celebrate around their 200 acres of hillside farmland. A cool silo stands next to their uniquely historic pale yellow barn, and an orchard and pond surround the farm. The 19th-century barn has plenty of space and multiple levels lit up at night. It’s a lovely property with the right touches from a wife-and-husband team that cares about you.

Pat’s Barn

Pat’s Barn is one of the few barn wedding venues open year-round. Temperature controlled and fully wheelchair accessible (with an elevator to the 2nd level–in a barn!), this location is more versatile than most in the Hudson Valley. While it’s scraping the very northern part of what is the upper Hudson Valley, Pat’s still counts! A multi-level barn with a 200-year-old interior and modern barn exterior, the homestead is on the national Register of Historic Places. It has 5,000 square feet of space, but is interestingly set in the newer Rensselaer Technology Park Campus. Ceremonies can be held inside or out, right on a lawn patch between the woods and the grey-and-red barn’s side entrance.

The Inn at West Settlement

The handmade touches at The Inn at West Settlement are beautiful, and the price is quite affordable. This large white barn sitting on a pond is surrounded by hills. When it comes to Catskills wedding venues, this one is a no-brainer. Even their family-style tables are made from reclaimed wood from their own former silo. Play lawn games, roast smores, and use the vintage chairs, settings, and china as you decorate for your day. At $12,500, it’s a great price. For $2,500, you and your wedding party can stay the whole weekend in the bridal suite, which comes with–get this–a sauna and Jacuzzi. Though one of the smallest venues acreage-wise, you’d never know it because you’re surrounded by nature. My favorite part? The 2nd-story walkway from the upper barn floor, which is great for this wedding photographer!

Stonewall Estate

Stonewall Estate sits technically outside of the Hudson Valley, but as a New York wedding photographer, I think of it still in the HV. A barn and estate, it prides itself on not being a wedding factory and encouraging guests to slow down and enjoy the whole weekend at the estate. $25k gets you the property for the weekend, including the 7,500-square-foot modern barn, a 5-bedroom, 6,000-square-foot home, a honeymoon cottage for the couple, and more. Here, Stonewall offers not only a fire pit, but an entire 10-foot-tall bonfire as well, should you desire!

The Arnold House

If a bespoke wedding experience with handcrafted food is your jam, The Arnold House in a place called Shandelee (yep, that’s a real place here in New York) may be your thing. A newer one in the upstate NY wedding venue scene, pricing starts at $20,000 including catering and open bar. The Arnold House is really into giving you that rustic wedding retreat feeling and letting you relax while showcasing their local food. There’s lots of flexibility for your ceremony site, and A/C + heating in the barn. Speaking of which, the “barn” is called the Barn + Greenhouse or The Greenhouse, and in 2019 it was merged with the old barn. You get a warm, tropical feel of a greenhouse with barn beams and that comfy wooden interior. It’s quite different as far as barns go, and allow you to feel you’re in the tropics even when it’s 0 degrees out.

The Cottage in the Pines

This is the quaint inn venue you’ve probably been looking for. Want to get married in a barn and chapel all in one? The converted Cottage in the Pines near Port Jervis, NY may be your wedding venue. Perfect for smaller, more intimate venues, this event space offers both a chapel and a barn along with a small resort-like feel. Choose the standard barn or the forest chapel with soaring ceilings and a beautiful exterior. Kayaking, hiking trails, a little waterfall….this is going to be the best little celebration you ever had.

7 Miles to Kingston

7 Miles to Kingston feels more like an AirBnB wedding venue rental than a huge wedding venue. That’s because it kind of is. Smaller, with a capacity of just 120 (plenty), the uniquely named 7 Miles to Kingston features an intimate 1,200-square-foot barn, a disco ball for dancing, riverfront property, a 300-year-old colonial house, and more. Out back, straight amphitheater-type seating lends itself well to relaxing outside, rehearsal dinners, or even your ceremony. Out front, ivy climbs up the barn walls, while inside, a relaxed atmosphere, a wood-and-white ceiling, and picnic tables complete the fun feel.

Nostrano Vineyards

I love photographing the many different areas around Nostrano Vineyards, which–once again–is not a place you’d expect a barn. Part upscale winery, part orchard, part field, and part barn, Nostrano has it all. It’s much larger than you’d expect, but has very, very rustic places for getting ready. Think of it as bare-bones units meets vineyard. Most folks get married out in the field under the giant weeping willow tree, and first looks can be done in the orchard. You’ll love the rolling hills of vineyards, and the large, welcoming, cheery barn can be decorated however you like. The site fee is $10,000. Also, the barn is aptly named “The Barn” as you’ll see in some of my photos at the bottom and heading of this post, though it’s affectionately called the “vineyard pole barn.” The 2,400-square-foot barn and vineyard wedding venue also has wagon wheel chandeliers, which I love to see decorated from each florist who takes on this place.

The Barn at Twiggys

While work is underway on a 5,500-square-foot barn, The Barn at Twiggys is a brand-new rustic wedding venue for more intimate weddings and celebrations. The folks here concentrate on handmade items, decorations, and creating the mood perfect for a small wedding. With A/C and heating, plus a large amount of indoor and outdoor space for ceremonies no matter the weather, you’ll be one of the first couples to get married here–and that means huge savings for more budget couples. It’s a very unique space, combining wooden decorations and dividers plus painted walls, all set on a rustic marsh. There’s lots of flexibility and privacy at Twiggys.

The Barn at Villa Venezia

Coming it at one of the largest barn wedding venues you’ve ever seen is the brand-new The Barn at Villa Venezia. A whopping 27,000 square feet of space allows for a lower level wedding and upper level wedding, totaling a maximum of 475 guests on the property at one time and two weddings staggered by 1.5 hours. You can get married in the smaller courtyards within the property, which feature a human-made waterfall area, or inside one of the levels if rain happens. It’s truly a massive space, and managed by the same folks as Villa Venezia (100 feet up the road) and many local Hudson Valley businesses.

Barn at Colden House

A fun, rustic, intimate wedding venue is the best way to describe the lovely Barn at Colden House. In fact, owners Janelle and Cory use the words authentic, raw, natural, and unspoiled to describe their non-cookie-cutter wedding venue. As a non-cookie-cutter, nontraditional wedding photographer, I completely agree. The reclaimed historic doors that line one wall of the old barn are awesome for a photo backdrop, and the whole rustic feel just allows you to breathe and let go of any stress. Play lawn games, nibble on breads and cheeses, and celebrate while feeling your at your friend’s country home.

Stonehill’s

Though Stonehill’s is more of a quirky resort-spa-escape-club-stay place, they also host weddings. Think of it as rustic hipster-meets-Hudson-Valley-farm-oasis. From glamping spots to unique 1-room capsules that are the stuff of AirBnB dreams, Stonehill New York is definitely out there. With space for 200 guests in the newly remodeled multi-level barn, you’ll be able to enjoy a very Brooklyn bar-esque wedding in a gorgeous barn. Indian Ridge wedding venue, also known as Indian Ridge Preserve or The Barn at Indian Ridge, is one of the newest New York barn wedding venues. Its golden color and details will enamor you, and the apple orchard and lake will keep you here. On a farm, you can use the fresh bounty in your menu if you so choose. Though the barn isn’t huge, it is an all-weather barn, so if cozying up and throwing a warm winter wedding is your dream, you can do it here. Full-service planning is available, as are two houses for the wedding party and couple.

The Barn on Hubbard

Booking The Barn on Hubbard means you get that DIY feeling with that rustic wedding venue you always wanted. An 1800s barn built by German immigrants and included some unique features on thousands of acres. Today, the silos are still unique, and the property feels out in the middle of anywhere. 4,000 square feet of space is at your disposal to decorate as you please. Most couples get married right outside the barn, but I would probably want to have my audience facing the barn. Don’t forget to check out the corn fields, where a special surprise waits. At just $8,000 for the site fee for the weekend, you’ve got yourself a New York deal.

OZ Farm

Want horses and a real, working equestrian farm for your wedding? (Side note: “Equestrian farm” sounds so much more upscale than “horse farm”) Oz Farm is your place. Very well known for the owner being related to Wizard of Oz producer Mervyn LeRoy, Jennifer Oz LeRoy has created an adult version of a petting zoo in this upscale venue. Your ceremony can be right up against the pasture gate, and you can celebrate in the 3,200-square-foot oak barn that formerly housed the horses. Tents can be set up for extra space and another dining area.

Callicoon Hills

Though Callicoon Hills isn’t as well-known since it’s closer to Scranton than it is to Poughkeepsie, it’s a beautiful wedding venue in Sullivan County. 4,000 square feet of the barn is ready to be left bare (it’s multiple levels!), or you can drape it with fabric, ferns, lights, or anything you fancy. This weekend wedding venue even has a pool. Since it’s a resort, you also can hike, fish, and explore. The barn itself is from 1859 and is the perfect place to celebrate and party. Vows are said at a special designated ceremony area near their creek.

Mount Gulian Historic Site

This is one of the few Hudson Valley wedding venues where you can have your vows overlooking the Hudson River. Plus, there’s [obviously, right?] a barn! The Mount Gulian Historic Site grounds where most couples say their vows is on a wide field that gently slopes towards the Hudson. It’s an historic site, so you spend your day on a 1730s-era Dutch Colonial Homestead. The barn itself is also a Dutch-style barn from the 1730s, and may be the only one of its kind still functioning in the region. Plus, Beacon, the ever-popular weekend destination for Brooklynites, is 5 minutes away. Don’t forget the donuts from Glazed Over Donuts! After you’re done stuffing yourself with donuts, enjoy the heritage garden and plant-covered walkway that’s a must for portraits.

Locust Hill Barn

One of the newest New York barn wedding venues on the scene, Locust Hill Barn is not only a new venue, but a new barn. Nestled into the woods and featuring a new, one-story, 6,000-square-foot modern-day barn, this tan-and-red building is the only one on the property (tented additions allowed). It’s meant to offer you a modern but rustic country experience. There’s no wifi, and the closest places to stay are AirBnBs or hotels that are 15+ minutes away. Get cozy here with plenty of space, a nearby orchard, and the fresh country air.

Taconic Ridge Farm

One of the more upscale barn wedding venues in New York, this is Taconic Ridge Farm. Owned by a lovely couple who also owns a Brooklyn wedding venue, Taconic Ridge Farm features many lovely spaces plus an historic barn and unique silo, pavilion, fire pit, overlook deck, and more. Furniture is included here, but little else, though facilities are available for whatever you picture. Make no doubt about it: Your wedding here will be more upscale NYC than barn-y, and that upscale aesthetic is exactly whey people choose Taconic Ridge Farm.

So there you have it: My exhaustive list of Upstate New York + Hudson Valley barn wedding venues. From the new to the old (300+ years!), the small to the large (475 guests!), you’re sure to find your perfect barn wedding spot here. I’m a Hudson Valley wedding photographer, and the number of wedding venues in our part of this country still astounds me. In fact, new venues pop up so frequently, I already had to add some since I started writing this article!

A Note About Barn Wedding Venues

Since I have traveled and photographed all over New York, the USA, and internationally, I know a few things about barn weddings.

  • Most barns are older and likely aren’t heated or cooled, and for that reason, most barn wedding venues are only open April – November or May – October (there are a few exceptions for newly renovated barns on this list)
  • Barns are typically made with wood, and wood is dark. Therefore, extra lighting may be necessary, and you can expect slightly dark wedding photos (your photographer can explain why)
  • Because barns are naturally lovely spaces, you always have a backup should the weather outside not pan out
  • Barns are typically full of history, so make sure to get approval whenever trying to attach something, be that thumbtacks or floral installations

If you end up choosing your venue from this list, I want to hear about it! Email me at info@KathrynCooperWeddings.com, or contact me right here to tell me about your celebration–or have me photograph it!

We may not have the best beaches or the sunniest weather, but we just may have the best barn wedding venues in the entire country. Enjoy~
